DOT Drug Testing Protocols: Updated

Department of Transportation Final Rule – Effective January 1, 2018

Please be advised that effective January 1, 2018 the Department of Transportation (DOT) is amending its drug testing program to align with the revised Health and Human Services (HHS) Mandatory Guidelines.


The following is a list of the revisions:

  • Remove methylenedioxyethylamphetamine (MDEA) from the standard amphetamines testing panel.
  • Add MDA to the amphetamine screening panel.
  • Add the following opioids to the current opiate panel and amend the name from opiates to opioids.

o Oxycodone

o Oxymorphone

o Hydrocodone

o Hydromorphone

Health Conservation Consultants is prepared to provide this new regulated panel January 1, 2018 at which time all DOT specimens received will be automatically analyzed in accordance with the new regulations at our laboratory – Dynacare.

This panel will also be available for non-DOT testing, however before any testing changes, please ensure that your drug policy is aligned with the changes and that all site requirements are met.  If you require assistance with your drug and alcohol policy, please let us know.
